Enkom consultants are contributing to IAEA work and to Artemis peer review of SOGIN
July 16, 2017
An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of experts concluded a 12-day mission today to review Italy’s programme for decommissioning nuclear facilities and managing radioactive waste.
Following a personal invitation from the IAEA our Managing Director, Martyn Jenkins, was asked to act as a Decommissioning Cost Expert for a review of several Italian nuclear sites.
This was the first time the IAEA has conducted its new ARTEMIS review, which was requested by the Government of Italy. Rome-based SOGIN, the state-owned company responsible for the decommissioning and radioactive waste-management programme, hosted the mission which covered seven sites – 4 nuclear power stations and 3 research facilities.
ARTEMIS missions provide independent expert opinion and advice, drawn from an international team of specialists convened by the IAEA. Reviews are based on the IAEA safety standards and technical guidance as well as international good practices.
